When I first read Casino Royale, many years ago, I completely skipped over the parts of the book where Fleming detailed how to play baccarat. When I read the book again this summer, I read through that description and found I was fascinated. Fleming's detail of the game was clear and riveting.

I notce in the new film though that people are talking about poker. I sincerely hope that they haven't substituted bacarrat for poker to appeal to a mass audience.

Well, unfortunately, this isn´t like Casino Royale when Bond (fleming) explains how to play cards, and to me (who haven´t play bridge ever)was tough in the first read, with instructions beside the book.
But you just can´t "skip" this chapter... you have to read it, even if it means to "avoid" the game per se. (like in the golf chapters in Goldfinger) You may not get the game, but you enjoy how Drax is defeated, how Basildon rests, how M was right choosing James to play with him, and how Bond put a rich man to suffer, beaten in his same game
the plan, the acctitude, the reactions, obviusly the comments are more than right.... you´ll understand it on Thuesday - Friday.
